how to know if you're a "chosen one"

the chosen ones, choose themselves.

Reader, one of the biggest myths I see online is this idea of being a "chosen one"…

You know the types, the ones who seem to be in positions of power or influence, who have great conviction in themselves and in their messaging.

For a while, I did think that these roles were pre-ordained and pre-destined...

But now, after finding patterns in these people, and surrounding myself with them, I believe that whilst you can be "chosen" by a higher power and your lifes circumstances seem almost orchestrated for a specific purpose...

You also choose to be chosen.

Because building a great life is a process of co-creation.

Being chosen isn’t something that just happens to you externally

In fact, it is the intention that is set inwardly, that is then later matched outwardly.

We all have the propensity and potential to be great, but few have the courage to embody it.

Everyone that you admire who appear to have it all figured out (they don't by the way), who are always doing great things or making that next big move...

At some point, made a choice internally to do so, and later the outer world caught up.

And if you don’t consciously make this choice, you will unconsciously conform to what the world decides for you.

The world will ask you who you are, and if you don't know, it will tell you. - Jung

You have to elect yourself before you are elected by the world.
You have to be worthy within before you are worthy without.

And in my experience, it's not an overnight switch. There's a time lag between setting this intention and reality actually catching up.

The skill here is keeping that level of conviction in your mind without the outer evidence to show it. Only the highest performers can shift their focus to the controllables: the work. And ignore the uncontrollables: the outcomes.

I decided years before I gained my first follower that I would earn a platform and be seen by millions, and there were times where I was tested to see if I still wanted that ...

But my conviction carried me through - the internal choice I made years ago, is only just now materialising.

I had a friend say that “You were chosen to do this”, whilst that could be true, all I know for sure is that I chose.

Did Jesus not say “the Kingdom of heaven is within”?

Did Rumi not say “what you are seeking is also seeking you”?

Is it not taught "As above, so below; as within, so without”?

But you might be thinking, aren’t there moments when life "elects" you first?

a calling, a crisis, a sudden responsibility, a spotlight you didn’t ask for…

Yes, but here's the small nuance - If you’re chosen before you choose yourself, you’ll find a way to sabotage it.

If the external comes before the internal, it will crush you instead of growing you...

The mind is evolved to survive, it will take the path of least resistance to ensure your safety, and so sabotage is natural instinct of the mind if it is wired in such a way.

That’s why so many people fumble life-changing opportunities.

They didn’t have the inner structure to hold the outer weight.

I’ve experienced this very same thing, opportunities were given to me before I was internally ready, and they slipped through my fingers.

I learnt that the world doesn’t just reward potential that others see in you,

It tests your readiness to receive what you've been given.

That’s why the real work…is becoming the kind of person who can hold what you ask for.

The illusion of Readiness

Most people wait to feel ready before choosing themselves. But readiness is not a feeling; it’s a decision.

You don’t become ready and then act.
You act and then become ready.

As Julia Cameron says, just jump and the net will appear.

Actions create evidence, which strengthens the belief that you're ready. It's a flywheel that works when you do.

The opposite is also true, every day you delay choosing yourself, the world reinforces that delay with evidence. More ‘proof’ you aren’t meant for more.

Until not choosing becomes your identity, and you remain stuck in the invisible box you have drawn around yourself.

Why do you stay in prison when the door is so wide open? - Rumi

Choosing yourself is difficult, because if you fail, there’s no one left to blame.

But this radical accountability creates the shift from believing the world decides your fate to you do.

So no, you don’t need to be chosen. You need to choose yourself.

And if you maintain this level of conviction, do the work that is necessary

outwork and out-obsess everyone else

then the world has no choice but to believe you, and will eventually say:

“They were chosen for this.”

Until next time,

Milan
